Why are specialized cranes needed in wind work?
Specialized cranes (mobile crane, crawler crane) play an important role in wind energy project, especially for erection of giant structures. In a basic wind turbine model, the blades weigh approximately 50T – 90T, installed at the height from 90m – 140m. The wind turbines can be erected onshore or offshore. With such demanding specifications, only specialized cranes (crawler crane) with capacity from 600T – 1600T is able to perform this work.
Besides installation of wind turbines, specialized cranes also facilitate transportation and lifting of material and equipment, including:
- Lifting and lowering of wind power equipment from barge to port (or vice versa)
- Lifting and lowering of wind power equipment at equipment storage
- Laying/Loading wind power equipment on sites
- Supporting main cranes in installation & dismantling
- Supporting main cranes to erect wind towers, etc.
